Choosing the right flooring for your residential or commercial space can depend on a lot of factors: style, use, budget, and square footage. There are a lot of times when functionality has to give way to style, but with laminate flooring, you may be able to get the best of both worlds.
Cost
Laminate flooring is hard to beat when it comes to cost. It’s much less expensive than hardwood flooring and can even be cheaper than carpet. The upkeep is very inexpensive and it only needs to be replaced under extreme circumstances or as a result of a change in interior design. Laminate flooring is virtually indestructible, won’t fade, and is resistant to stains.
Installation is Simple
While you may not want to tackle this job on your own, you can rest assured that it’s easy enough for the average DIY’er to manage. Laminate flooring is made to snap together with a tongue and groove click system onto any kind of subflooring, which eliminates the need for glue. This means that your laminate floor basically floats above your subflooring—whether it’s wood, plywood, concrete or even old vinyl flooring.
Beauty
There are a lot of style options when it comes to laminate flooring. You can even find beautiful patterns that mimic wood grain, which can give a room that experiences high traffic or has the potential to be damaged by repeated impact a warm personality that used to only be possible with wood floors.
Easy Clean Up
Like most plastic products, laminate floors are easy to clean. You can vacuum, damp-mop, or sweep a laminate floor. Laminate floors don’t need to be waxed or polished.
While laminate floors are a great choice for most rooms in a house or commercial space, there are a few exceptions.
Very heavy animals (even large dogs) with claws can damage laminate flooring. If you are considering laminate floors for your veterinary office or if you have a number of heavy dogs in your home, you may want to look at other flooring options.
Laminate floors are also not a good choice for rooms with high moisture, such as bathrooms or locker rooms. If moisture gets into the HDF core-board it can swell or get infested with mildew and must be replaced.
